What a check note looks like
These two are for made-up businesses. The names and every fact in them are invented, so you can see the format before you ask for your own. Your note is written for your trade and your area.

A. N. Other Plumbing & Heating
Derby · three vans · website from 2019, Google Ads run by a freelancer
What you told us
“Boiler installs have dried up. Emergency work's fine. We spend £400 a month on Google Ads through a freelancer, and I don't know what it gets us.”
What we looked at
- Your Google profile
- Your website on a phone
- Your ads, in Google's public list of ads
- Five searches in Derby: emergency plumber, boiler repair, new boiler, boiler installation, bathroom fitter
What we found
- The main trade on your profile is Plumber, and boiler installation isn't listed as a service. Your profile has less to match “boiler installation Derby”.
- On a phone, your number is hidden in the menu. It takes two taps to ring you.
- The contact form has nine boxes, including a date picker and “How did you hear about us?”.
- We couldn't find the code that tells Google Ads a form was sent. The ads may be counting clicks, not enquiries. Worth checking inside the account.
- We found 14 of your ads. None of them mention boilers, the work you said you want.
- On the map you're second for “emergency plumber Derby”, and outside the top three for “new boiler Derby”.
The first job we'd do
Fix the tracking: add the code, and count calls from the ads and taps on your number. Without it, we can't measure anything else we change, and nobody can say what the £400 buys.
First four weeks
- Week 1Tracking set up, and tested with a real call and a real form.
- Week 2Profile: boiler installation and bathroom fitting added as services, 10 photos of recent installs, hours checked.
- Week 3Website: number at the top of the page, form cut to three boxes, Gas Safe number on every page.
- Week 4Separate ads for boiler installs with their own budget, so the emergency ads keep running as they are.
What we can't promise
- A place on the map. Google doesn't sell one.
- Install enquiries in the first week. People take longer to choose a boiler than a plumber for a leak.
- That every call is a good one. The report shows which ones were.
What we'd need from you
Your Google Ads and Google profile shared with us from your own login (no passwords), photos of five recent installs, your Gas Safe number, and half an hour on the phone.
Ad budget
Keep £400 a month for now, split between emergency work and installs. We'd look at it again after six weeks of proper tracking.

A. N. Other Carpet Care
Norwich · one van, sole trader · no website, Google profile with eight reviews, work from Facebook groups
What you told us
“More sofa and rug jobs. I get carpets from Facebook, but it's feast or famine. No website. Not sure I need one.”
What we looked at
- Your Google profile
- Your Facebook page
- Four searches in Norwich: carpet cleaning, sofa cleaning, rug cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning
What we found
- Your profile lists carpet cleaning only. Sofa, rug and end-of-tenancy cleaning aren't there as services, and they're the jobs you said you want.
- Your profile shows your home address. If customers don't come to you, Google says to remove it and show your areas instead.
- You've got eight reviews, all from last year. Nothing asks customers for one after a job.
- You show on the map for “carpet cleaning Norwich”, but not for “sofa cleaning Norwich”.
- Carpet cleaning is a Local Services Ads category in the UK. You'd need to pass Google's checks first, including insurance.
The first job we'd do
Your Google profile. It's free, and right now it doesn't mention the jobs you want.
Do you need a website?
Not yet. We'd start with your profile and Local Services Ads, where people can ring or message you straight from Google. A simple site makes sense once you want search ads for sofas and rugs.
First four weeks
- Week 1Profile: address removed, service areas set, sofa, rug and end-of-tenancy added as services, 10 before and after photos.
- Week 2A review card and link, and a message you can send after each job.
- Week 3Local Services Ads application, with your insurance details.
- Week 4If you pass, ads for sofa and rug jobs only, with a small daily budget you set. A short before and after video for Facebook in Norwich.
What we can't promise
- That Google approves your Local Services Ads. Google runs the checks.
- That message leads all turn into jobs. You'll see which did in the report.
What we'd need from you
Your Google profile shared with us from your own login (no passwords), your insurance certificate, before and after photos when you have them, and half an hour on the phone.
Ad budget
A small daily budget you choose for Local Services Ads, set from what a sofa job is worth to you. We'd look at it again after six weeks.
