SEO and maps

Show up on the map and in Google search when someone nearby needs you

Google picks who shows on the map using three things: how well your profile matches the search, how far you are from the person searching, and how well known you are. Distance is fixed, so we work on the match and on how well known you are.

No paid shortcut

Google says nobody can pay for a better place in the free map results. We won't promise you a position. Each month we show you where you are.

Your Google Business Profile

  • The main trade on your profile, every service you offer, the areas you cover and your hours.
  • Real photos of your work, and new photos and updates every month.
  • Your business name, number and areas the same on your site, Checkatrade, Yell, Facebook and the rest.

Work from home?

Google says to remove your address from the profile if customers don't come to you. Your profile then shows the areas you cover instead: up to 20 of them, within about two hours' drive of your base.

Your website in Google search

  • A page for each service you want work for, written for the person searching.
  • Pages for towns only where you've got real work to show.
  • Page titles that say what you do and where.
  • Fast pages, and structured data that matches what's on them.
  • Google Search Console set up in your name, so you can see the searches that find you.

Apple Maps and Bing

Some of your customers search on Apple Maps instead of Google. Apple Business lets you manage your place card there for free, with your hours, photos and details, and it works in the UK. We set it up, and Bing Places too, with the same details as your Google profile.

Reviews

A short link and a card to hand over at the end of a job, and a reminder for you to ask every customer. We draft a reply to every review, good or bad, and you approve it.

We won't write reviews, buy them, offer anything in return for them, or ask only the customers we know were happy. Google bans all four, and fake reviews are banned under UK consumer law.

How long it takes

Fixes to your profile can show within weeks. Moving up the map in a busy town takes months. Ads bring in enquiries while you wait.
